COLUMBIA, SC – Lady Vols basketball made the wrong kind of history at South Carolina.
No. 17 Tennessee lost 93-50 to the No. 3 Gamecocks at Colonial Life Arena on Feb. 8, which set the program record for largest margin of defeat. The 43-point loss beat the previous record of 31 points from a loss at Texas on Dec. 11, 1984.

Tennessee is only a week removed from suffering what was second-largest margin of defeat in program history with its 30-point loss at UConn on Feb. 1. That loss, a 96-66 defeat, now ranks third.
Both losses are only the second and third time the Lady Vols have been beaten by 30 or more. The next worst margin of loss is 28 points.
Tennessee was within striking distance after the first quarter, only trailing 25-18, but South Carolina added to its lead with every quarter. The Gamecocks broke the game open when they outscored the Lady Vols 24-9 in the third quarter to lead by 30 points going into the fourth.
South Carolina then outscored Tennessee 22-9 in the fourth, bringing their total to outscoring UT 46-18 after halftime.
