“Getting to wear ‘Tennessee’ across my chest and be a Lady Vol these past three years has been so rewarding in so many ways,” Darby wrote in an Instagram post. “Playing on the biggest stage in women’s basketball has truly been a dream come true. I am filled with so much gratitude for every moment.”
The 5-foot-7 guard appeared in 31 games and averaged 4.3 minutes over three seasons. She only appeared in eight games this season and averaged 1.8 points and shot 33.3% from 3-point range.
“This game has given me so much – it’s shaped me, challenged me, and given me opportunities I will never take for granted,” Darby wrote. “After a lot of prayer and listening to my body, I have made the decision to medically retire from basketball. It’s a decision I never thought or wanted to make, but it is rooted in faith and trust in the Lord’s plan for what is next.”

Darby hit one of the 30 3-pointers against NC Central in December when the Lady Vols set the NCAA Division I record for most 3-pointers made in a single game. She also logged a career-high three steals in 12 minutes.
Darby is the fourth player to leave Tennessee this offseason, although all had limited roles. Junior guard Avery Strickland transferred to Belmont, fifth-year senior forward Favor Ayodele entered the transfer portal on April 9 and redshirt senior guard Destinee Wells entered the portal on April 17. Strickland averaged 5.8 minutes, Ayodele averaged 5.7 minutes and Wells averaged 3.2 minutes.
