Late block seals Wisconsin women’s basketball win over No. 24 Nebraska

by

MADISON – One game after having one of the most prolific scoring performances in the history of the Wisconsin women’s basketball program, Destiny Howell didn’t score a bucket.

However, the 6-foot guard, who had 39 points in a double-overtime win over Oregon on Jan. 18, did make the defensive play of the night by blocking the 3-point attempt of Nebraska’s Callin Hake’s in the waning seconds to seal a 63-60 Badgers victory Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Kohl Center.

The victory was Wisconsin’s second straight over a Quad 1 opponent and its second win of the season over a ranked opponent.

Senior forward Gift Unchenna finished with 22 points on 10-for-17 shooting and grabbed 14 points. She had a double-double at the half when the Badgers led by 13 points.

Junior guard Kyrah Daniels added 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.

The win raised Wisconsin’s record 13-7 and 5-4 in the Big Ten. Nebraska (14-5, 3-5) dropped it third straight game despite forcing the Badgers into 14 second half turnovers.
