SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders have added another trophy to their trophy case, winning the 2025 Leagues Cup with a 3-0 win over Inter Miami. The Sounders, who have two MLS Cup, a U.S. Open championship and the 2022 Concacaf Champions League, holding off Miami for a dominant win in front of a sold-out crowd of 69,314.
The Sounders struck first, with a goal from Osaze De Rosario in the 26th minute. De Rosario hit the header off a cross from Alex Roldan, burying it into the back of the net and giving Seattle an early 1-0 lead.

Miami ramped up the offensive pressure in the second half after a slow start, with star forward Lionel Messi among those players missing some great looks. But in the 84th minute, Seattle doubled the lead with a penalty kick: Georgia Minoungou drew the foul, and Roldan sunk the kick to send the building shaking.

As if that wasn’t enough, Paul Rothrock sealed the victory with a goal in the 89th minute.
After the match, though, things became a little heated. Luis Suárez, seemingly upset with the loss, sparked a fight, running over to a celebrating Obed Vargas — Seattle’s 20-year-old star midfielder — and put him into a headlock. The contact resulted in a large scrum as both teams began to get in each other’s face. Suárez also appeared to spit in the face of a Sounders security guard during the altercation.

It took several minutes for the two sides to separate in time for the stage to be brought out for a trophy ceremony. But once things calmed down, Seattle was able to claim its latest trophy — becoming the first MLS team to claim every possible North American trophy.
It was the biggest and best-attended game at Lumen Field for Seattle since the 2022 Concacaf Champions League final, with Sunday night’s attendance narrowly beating that game.
: The team used to lead MLS in average attendance in the 40,000s, and though attendance has dropped since the COVID-19 pandemic, they’re still third in the league with around 30,000 fans per game last year.

Peppered throughout the Sounders green was plenty of pink, as fans of Inter Miami (or, more specifically, Messi) showed out for Messi’s first match in Seattle since joining MLS.
But it was Seattle, with a raucous, friendly home environment, that came out on top.
