The ACC Championships continued with the first full day of competition from Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Day 2 prelims featured the 500 freestyle, 200 IM and 50 freestyle for both the men and women.
Here is a look at how things went this morning:
Women’s 500 Freestyle
Stanford senior Aurora Roghair took the top seed in the 500 free with a time of 4:34.79. She was the only swimmer in the field to split all 27s after her first 50 (26.17) and closed with a strong 27.04 in her final 50 to earn the top seed in tonight’s finals.
Roghair’s time was four seconds slower than her seed time and we will see how much she is saving for the finals.
Virginia sophomore Cavan Gormsen took the second seed in 4:35.60, two seconds better than her seed time.
Virginia freshman Katie Grimes was third at 4:37.84, though her time is five seconds slower than her seed time, which should set up a pretty interesting race with Roghair in the finals.

Men’s 500 Freestyle
Cal fifth-year Lucas Henveaux was ahead from start to finish in the men’s 500 free. He split a 22.64 to start, then had a 24.75 in his second 50 before closing with all 25s to take the top seed for tonight’s finals in 4:12.42.
NC State fifth-year Kenneth Lloyd took the second seed in 4:14.13, four seconds ahead of his previous best.
Virginia freshman David King dropped two seconds to reach 4:14.18 and take the third seed.
Cal’s Gabriel Jett took the fourth spot in 4:14.53, two seconds off his season best.

Virginia freshman Leah Hayes led a stacked field in the 200 IM. Hayes took the top seed in 1:54.18, just a couple tenths ahead of Stanford junior Torri Huske, who finished in 1:54.35.
Huske’s best time is 1:52.89 and she and Hayes should have a good duel in the finals.
Cal senior Leah Polonsky (1:54.89) and Stanford’s Lucy Bell (1:55.31) and Lillie Nordmann (1:55.49) will look to make some waves as well.

Virginia Tech fifth-year Carles Coll Marti claimed the top seed in the men’s event, going a 1:41.35, just under his season best.
North Carolina’s Louis Dramm took the second spot in 1:42.41, Georgia Tech’s Berke Saka was third (1:42.45) and Stanford senior Ron Polonsky was fourth (1:42.75).
Meanwhile, Cal fifth-year Destin Lasco snuck into the finals with the eighth seed at 1:43.21. He has the second-best time of the season in the conference at 1:41.68 and will look for some outside smoke in the finals.

Virginia senior Gretchen Walsh scorched a 20.87 to earn the top seed for the finals of the 50 free.
Walsh’s top time of the season is 20.68 and she holds the NCAA record at 20.37, set at last year’s NCAA Championships.
Louisville’s Julia Dennis took the second seed at 21.44, followed by Virginia’s Claire Curzan (21.67), Pitt’s Sophie Yendell (21.68), and Louisville’ s Caroline Larsen (21.76) and Gabi Albiero (21.88).
It took 21.92 to make the finals.

Cal senior Jack Alexy was the fastest of the morning in the 50 with an 18.71, just 13 hundredths off of his seed time.
NC State sophomore Quintin McCarty was just behind at 18.81, followed by Virginia Tech’s Brent Whitfield (18.89), NC State’s Jerry Fox (18.97) and Cal’s Bjorn Seeliger (19.09).
