Logan Paul Says Current WWE Rival Ruined His Chances of Joining the UFC

Professional wrestlers have a strong foundation in showmanship and physical conditioning, which can be advantageous in an MMA cage. However, the scripted nature of professional wrestling differs from the unscripted, chaotic, and competitive environment of MMA, which requires athletes to develop genuine combat skills. Success in MMA demands proficiency and sometimes mastery in various disciplines. and athletes need to adapt to the rigorous demands of real combat. While some professional wrestlers in the past have managed to carve out successful careers in MMA, nowadays, the path is filled with more obstacles that test the resolve and capabilities of even the most seasoned wrestlers.

Logan Paul, the content creator known for his ventures into boxing and professional wrestling, recently revealed that he unsuccessfully attempted to make a UFC debut in 2024. He believes his failed attempt to make the UFC roster is due to fellow WWE superstar CM Punk.

On a recent episode of his "Impaulsive" podcast, with UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall as his guest, Paul revealed that he had reached out to UFC President Dana White, expressing his desire to fight on the undercard for UFC 300. However, his proposal was met with silence.

Paul blamed fellow professional wrestler CM Punk, who transitioned from WWE to the UFC in 2014 and lost his only two fights in a lackluster fashion.

Paul speculated that Punk's dismal MMA performance may have influenced White's reluctance to welcome another professional wrestler into the UFC, stating, “"He f*cked it up and after that Dana was like 'I’m never doing this again.'"

Paul also emphasized that, unlike Punk, he has a strong wrestling background as a former high school wrestler, placing third in the Ohio state finals. He suggested that his wrestling foundation and his exhibition boxing experience make him a formidable competitor in the UFC.

Currently, Paul is focused on his burgeoning career in WWE, where he has found a sense of belonging, saying, “I don’t know if I want to turn away from that at the moment and dedicate time to something that would be like a side quest at this point.”

While the prospect of seeing Logan Paul in an MMA fight remains uncertain, the era when professional wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and CM Punk could secure UFC roster spots and significant promotional pushes appears to have passed. For now, it seems Dana White is less open to athletes crossing over into UFC without first proving themselves either on regional promotions or Dana White’s Contender Series.
