One of the longest tenured head coaches in college basketball is on the move.
On Monday, Saint Mary’s coach Randy Bennett agreed to terms to become the next head coach at Arizona State. He replaces Bobby Hurley, whose contract wasn’t renewed following the season after 11 years on the job.

Bennett had been the head coach of the Gaels since 2001, and he reached the NCAA tournament 12 times in 25 years. He was a seven-time WCC coach of the year, winning the conference regular season crown four times and its tournament seven times.
He leaves Saint Mary’s with a 589-228 record.
Bennett is an Arizona native. He grew up in Mesa and attended Mesa Community College before transferring to UC San Diego. Now, he’s back in his home state, taking over a Sun Devils program that has made the NCAA tournament once since 2019.
