University of Louisville basketball coach Pat Kelsey is gaining some attention after being named one of more than a dozen coaches to watch for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Award.
A Friday announcement included Kelsey as one of 15 coaches being considered for the award. Last year’s winner was Dan Hurley, head coach of the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team.
Kelsey took over as UofL’s head coach this season in replacement of Kenny Payne and has led the team to a 20-6 record overall so far this season. In the two previous seasons, the Cardinals won only 12 regular season games.
