
Temperatures in the low 40s fittingly brought out the bubble jackets, hoodies and beanie caps for many in the crowd of 14,034 in Lynn Family Stadium for the Louisville Kings’ debut in the United Football League.
Everything about the game felt like a late October fall night in the thick of football season. And even though the Kings fell short in a 15-13 loss, Louisville has a winner.

Professional football has arrived.
Some of the rules will take a little getting used to, like having one-, two- or three-point options after touchdowns and four-point field goal of 60 yards or more. One rule in particular fans will grow to love is that there’s no punting once the team crosses the 50-yard line, except in the final two minutes of a half.
But there is nothing gimmicky about it.
There’s real talent here. Super Bowl winners. Players looking for a second chance to make an NFL roster and those trying to create their first opportunity.
Football fans normally split between Louisville or Kentucky in college or Cincinnati and Indianapolis in the NFL can unite behind the Kings.
