Ahead of No. 3 Texas A&M’s (7-0, 4-0 SEC) Week 9 road test vs. No. 20 LSU (5-2, 2-2 SEC) on Saturday night, it was revealed by LSU head coach Brian Kelly that freshman offensive lineman Carius Curne will start at left tackle instead of backup center DJ Chester, as the 2025 five-star signee is now face Texas A&M’s loaded defensive line, led by senior edge Cashius Howell.
After losing starting left tackle Tyree Adams for the next few weeks, this was a no-brainer for Kelly, knowing that Texas A&M’s defensive advantage can’t completely overwhelm quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who will need to have an elite performance in the pocket, especially if Texas A&M’s offense finds success early.

Curne was the 67th-ranked prospect and the No. 1-ranked recruit out of Arizona in the 2025 cycle. While his future is bright, this is still his first season against an experienced defensive front.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, who is still regarded as one of the top defensive playcallers in the country, looks to send a message and could send more pressure on the left side to take advantage of Curne’s lack of experience. However, if LSU’s offensive line wins the battle early, Nussmeier could find a rhythm against Texas A&M’s secondary, which struggled to stop Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green last weekend.
Texas A&M will face LSU on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., airing on ABC.
