LSU football is ready to make Lane Kiffin the highest-paid coach in the sport, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello.
Kiffin, currently serving as Ole Miss’s head coach, is the hottest name on the coaching market. LSU and Florida both circled Kiffin as priority No. 1. Ole Miss is making an effort to retain Kiffin, too. Ole Miss AD Keith Carter said an announcement on Kiffin’s future would come after the Egg Bowl vs. Mississippi State on Nov. 28.

On Friday, Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger reported that LSU’s offer to Kiffin was over $90 million. The CBS report added specifics, noting LSU’s offer could be up to $98 million, putting Kiffin in front of Georgia’s Kirby Smart, who currently holds the title for highest-paid coach in college football.
“The deal is believed to be for seven years and worth as much as $98 million, the source said, and includes a significant promise that would make LSU competitive in revenue sharing and NIL, the source said. A formal offer has not yet been made,” wrote Marcello.
Earlier this month, Florida was seen as the biggest threat to poach Kiffin from Ole Miss, but LSU has captured the moment in recent days. A lot of people in the sport see this as an LSU vs. Ole Miss battle now.
LSU football began its coaching search after firing Brian Kelly in October. LSU had high expectations entering the year, but a 5-3 start led to a major shakeup atop the program.
