LSU wide receiver Barion Brown nearly scored a touchdown to put the Tigers ahead of Clemson with under five minutes to play in the third quarter of Saturday’s week one opener.
Brown was targeted by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier while the Tigers were on the 29-yard line on second down and 11. On ESPN’s broadcast, the team of Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit thought the play would yield six points upon further review. Instead, the officials determined it was incomplete, much to the surprise of LSU’s sideline and fans as well as ESPN’s rules analyst.

Two few plays later, Damian Ramos missed a 46-yard field goal attempt that left the score tied at 10 apiece. LSU failed to capitalize after converting two first-down plays and one on third down to get inside Clemson‘s 30-yard line. The Tigers left the eight-play, 25-yard drive empty-handed.
Of course, LSU eventually took the lead and secured the win, but for a moment, it looked like this call could potentially swing the game. Thankfully for LSU, it didn’t matter. Brown caught five passes for 25 yards in his LSU debut.
