LSU kicked off its 2027 recruiting class on Monday morning with a pledge from Cotton Valley (La.) Evangel Christian four-star quarterback Peyton Houston.
The prized in-state passer chose the Tigers over Oklahoma, USC and a slew of others. Houston ranks as the Rivals Industry’s No. 8 quarterback and No. 94 prospect overall.

The 5-foot-10, 202-pound Houston was recruited to LSU by offensive coordinator Joe Sloan and he was back in Baton Rouge over the weekend for the Tigers victory over Florida.
In two games as a junior Houston has been good on 68 percent of his passes for 664 yards and five touchdowns. He’s added two rushing scores.
As a sophomore Houston racked up 5,170 total yards and 45 touchdowns this past season. He recorded an NFHS record of 817 passing yards in a game, too. He threw for 4,480 yards on the season en route to landing First Team All-District, First Team All-Prep and First Team LSWA All-State honors.
Houston is also a 4.0 student.

LSU offered Houston a year ago and turned it up for him this calendar year. A visit in February showed him what it would look like as a quarterback in Baton Rouge.
“My visit was amazing and it was an all-day event,” Houston said. “I got to tour every part of the campus with Coach (Trey) Holtz and Coach PK (Patrick Kelly). I also had the chance to talk with all the people I would interact with on a daily basis.
“After the first meeting, we had lunch at Chimes, which was outstanding. Once we got back, I used the VR to see how it helps with reads and processing the game. I then spoke with Doctor (DF) Arnold about how they develop players off the field. I also talked to Coach (Brian) Kelly about how the day went. To end the day, I met with Coach (Joe) Sloan and saw how I would fit into the offense, how he teaches his quarterbacks, and his standards for quarterbacks both on and off the field.”
Other programs to offer Houston included Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
