LSU football is losing a critical assistant coach to the NFL. According to a report from Luke Johnson, LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis is moving on to accept the same position with the New Orleans Saints.
Davis, who played his college football at LSU in the 90’s, returned to LSU last January, but after one year in Baton Rouge, Davis is off to the NFL. It was Davis’ third coaching stint at LSU. He began his coaching career with the Tigers as a graduate assistant. He was later a member of Nick Saban’s national championship staff.
Davis has previous NFL experience, working for the Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
At LSU, he was among the highest paid defensive line coaches in the country. He’s highly respected as a recruiter and a developer.
LSU saw its defensive tackle room take a massive step forward under Davis. True freshman Ahmad Breaux and Dominick McKinley made impacts as first-year players and Davis got the most out of transfers Gio Paez and Jay’Viar Suggs.
The #Saints are expected to hire Bo Davis to be their defensive line coach, according to a league source, adding another coach from the college ranks.
Davis most recently worked as the DL coach at LSU and is considered one of the NCAA’s better DL coaches.

Davis was one of the top position coaches in the country. It’s a big loss for Kelly’s staff.
Kelly will now be looking for his fourth defensive line coach in four years at LSU. In 2022, Kelly hired Jamar Cain. After one year, Cain took a job with the Denver Broncos. Cain was replaced by Jimmy Lindsay, but Lindsay stepped away from the program for health reasons. That’s when Kelly hired Davis. Now, Kelly is searching again.
