Luka Mijatovic Improves 400 Free NAG at TYR Pro Swim Series
Luka Mijatovic improved his 400 freestyle national-age group record for 15- and 16-year-olds on Thursday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Westmont.
Mijatovic went 3:48.95 in the A final. That trims three tenths off his record, set at Junior Pan Pacs in 2024, at 3:49.24. The record had been stuck in amber Larsen Jensen went 3:50.68 in 2002.
Mijatovic had earned his place in the A final by going 3:50.22 in prelims. He was more than a second quicker at night, finishing fourth overall.
Mijatovic owns the 500 free and 1,000 free records in short-course yards for 15-16. In the 13-14 age group, he set SCY records in the 500 free, 1,000 free, 1,650 free and 400 individual medley.
The native of California swimming for Pleasanton Seahawks dominated the 13-14 LCM age-group records in 2023 and 2024, setting every freestyle record from 200 to 1,500 meters, plus the 400 IM.
Australian world champion Sam Short won the event Thursday, ahead of American Olympian Carson Foster and Brazilian veteran Guilherme Costa, but Mijatovic got the chance to those older guys. Costa is a decade Mijatovic’s senior.
