Lyle Yost Bridges Rivalry Divide as New Michigan Assistant Coach

Ohio State’s NCAA champion diver Lyle Yost is bridging the classic Big Ten rivalry, hired on Thursday as an assistant diving coach by Michigan.

Yost’s college career ended in 2024. He spent the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, leading six Buckeyes men’s and women’s divers to the NCAA Championships in 2025.

Yost won the NCAA title in 1-meter diving in 2023 and 2024. He was an All-American on all three heights in 2023, earning the CSCAA’s Diver of the Year award.

He teams up with another exceptionally decorated diver in Purdue great Brandon Loschiavo, Michigan’s head coach.

“Lyle will be an incredible asset to the Michigan team,” Loschiavo said in a press release. “Not only will he be a leader on the boards himself and a pro athlete, but he will have the ability to guide our athletes through years of experience on the competition and coaching sides. I couldn’t be happier having him be a part of this program and I’m excited to see where we’re able to take Michigan in these proceeding years.”

Yost has international experience, twice competing at the World Aquatics Championships. He competed at Olympic Trials in 2024 and won a U.S. Open title on 1-meter in 2022.

She Shaker Heights, Ohio, native left Columbus with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s degree in world language education. Yost was a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-America and four-time Academic All-Big Ten, as well as a Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient and Arthur Ashe Jr. Male Sports Scholar of the Year.
