Lynx’s new broadcaster will stream at least 18 free games

Victory+, a sports streaming service that produces local broadcasts for the Anaheim Ducks and Texas Ranges, among others, has entered into a partnership with the Minnesota Lynx.

The streaming service will provide free access for all regional broadcasts of Lynx games, upwards of 18 of the team’s 44 regular-season games this season for smart TVs and mobile devices.

This will be the streamer’s first foray into the WNBA, which this spring entered into a new collective bargaining agreement with its players that raised the team salary cap from $1.5 million to $7 million. The league also welcomes this season new teams in Portland, the California Bay Area and Toronto, expanding the WNBA to 15 teams.

“This is a defining moment for the WNBA and our players,” Lynx and Timberwolves CEO Matt Caldwel said in a team statement. “As the WNBA enters a new era of growth following the CBA, access matters more than ever. We heard clearly from fans about how and where they watch, and Victory+ allows us to remove barriers and make Lynx basketball more accessible than ever before.”

Under the agreement, all regionally distributed games will stream on Victory+ on smart TVs and mobile devices. The streamer replaces FanDuel Sports Network, which will cease operations at the end of the NBA and NHL seasons. The Victory+ package will include a 24/7 Lynx hub that will feature non-game content such as game highlights and recaps, behind-the-scenes storytelling and player features.

The Lynx’s on-air talent will be announced at a later date.

“The Lynx share our belief that passion should be the only requirement for entry,” said Neil Gruninger, president and CEO of A Parent Media Co. Inc., which owns Victory+.

Victory+ is available on streaming platforms such as Android, Apple TV, Chromecast, Hisense, LG, Roku, Samsung, Vidaa, iOS and Amazon Fire TV.
