MAHANOY CITY — The Lady Bears came out victorious Friday night as they took down Nativity 64-6.

Ten different players scored for the Lady Bears, as they improved to 2-1 on the year.

Coming into the game the mindset was simple for Mahanoy Area.

“We just wanted to come in and play our game,” said Mahanoy Area head coach Tom Scheeler. “We want to get better every day we can. We didn’t want to get sloppy.”

The Lady Bears came out firing as they started the game on a 20-0 run.

Lady Bears Ella Connolly added: “It’s been a rough season the last few years,” said Connolly. “We knew we had to work together and bring it.”

Connolly had an outstanding night scoring a game-high 18 points.

The Lady Bears put up 30 points in quarter one, led by Felicia Bro who scored eight of her ten points in the first quarter.

Mahanoy Area remained hot and defended well to go up 40-6 at the half.

“We had a good mindset and were really positive with one another,” said Connolly.

The Lady Bears started right where they left off in quarter three. Mahanoy Area scored 13 points in the quarter. Connolly was a spark in the quarter as she scored eight of her 18 points.

“As a team we have been working on how to work together,” said Connolly. “Our offense has been getting really better as a team.”

A young Nativity team fought hard and battled to the end.

“They are getting better, said Scheeler. They come in and they work hard, that is all you can ask for.”

The Lady Bears stood tall in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

“It feels really good, said Connolly. It feels good to keep winning and improving every game.”

“Every win is good,” said Scheeler

Finley McNamara, Peyten Evans and Emmajoan Fox each scored buckets for Nativity.

The Lady Bears will look forward to what’s ahead after an impressive win.

“We have to move the ball better on offense and be more careful with our turnovers,” said Scheeler.

Scheeler also liked how his team has shown improvement over the last three games.

“We can’t doubt ourselves, said Connolly We just have to keep working hard and not overthink anything.”

The Lady Bears will look to pick up their third win on Tuesday as they travel to Weatherly. Nativity will look to bounce back as they travel to Marian on Tuesday night.
