As many of us know, Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman loves to attend sporting events outside the one he coaches, and on Monday night, he didn’t have to travel far for his next event.
He was court-side as the No. 1 ranked Irish women’s basketball team defeated the Duke Blue Devils, 64-39. The team has not lost since the end of November, running off 17-straight victories as they were just moved up to the top team in the nation earlier in the day.
Freeman must love to see the success of Niele Ivey, as she’s turned around a program that had been middling before her arrival. The similarities between the directions of the two teams these coaches are leading is extremely similar, as both have title aspirations in their third full season in South Bend.
Hopefully the women can get a bit farther than the football team, which means they’d be cutting down the next in March.
