The Miami Hurricanes are heading into the 2025 season riding the momentum of a breakthrough campaign and welcoming a new quarterback tasked with keeping that momentum alive. After a 10-win season in 2024, Miami now turns to Carson Beck, a seasoned SEC veteran, to lead the offense following the departure of standout quarterback Cam Ward. Like Ward, Beck is a highly productive transfer who comes into The U with major aspirations. However, there is a difference between Beck and the new quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, according to Miami head coach Mario Cristobal.
“He (Beck) is different than Cam personality-wise, but not from a drive and determination side,” Cristobal told Josh Pate recently during Pate’s college football speaker series on Josh Pate’s College Football Show. “I think that really hit us strong in that very short (recruiting) process with Carson. His knowledge of the game speaks very loudly of a guy who’s been prepping his entire life. I also think we brought in a person who has a lot to prove, but more in the sense of winning. More in the sense of team than anything else.”
Beck was a part of two national championship teams and two SEC Championship teams during his time at Georgia. None of those victories, though, featured Beck as the focal point or leader. For both national championships and the 2022 SEC Championship, Beck was the backup to Stetson Bennett IV. In the 2024 SEC Championship game, Beck injured his UCL and had to watch his backup Gunner Stockton lead Georgia to a comeback victory over Texas.

Cristobal’s point is that Beck wants to be the man on the team. Cristobal and the Miami staff believe that a healthy Carson Beck can help get the Hurricanes over the hump in terms of winning an ACC Championship, earning a College Football Playoff berth, and winning the College Football Playoff National Championship. Those accomplishments would not only make Beck a Miami legend but would also help his NFL Draft stock, which took a huge hit with his 2024 performance at Georgia, even before the UCL injury.
Beck is scheduled to be cleared fully by the time fall camp opens up, and if he indeed is, tremendous opportunities abound for both sides of the equation. For Miami, 2025 is about building on a successful foundation. For Beck, it’s about proving he’s the kind of quarterback who can lead a program to the sport’s biggest stage.
