Max Holloway: Conor McGregor ‘would be great at the White House’

Max Holloway still seeks redemption against Conor McGregor.

McGregor defeated Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23-8 UFC) by unanimous decision in 2013. From that point on, Holloway would go on a 13-fight unbeaten streak en route to capturing the UFC featherweight title. McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) also went onto become featherweight champion, but their paths never crossed.

McGregor acknowledged a potential rematch with Holloway when both fighters competed on Fight Island in January 2021. Holloway defends his BMF title against Charles Oliveira (36-11 MMA, 24-11 UFC) in the UFC 326 headliner on March 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Paramount+), and would love to welcome McGregor back to the octagon – at the White House.

“The belt is definitely the goal, but I also have the BMF title, which I’m super proud of, and it opens up a lot of really interesting fights,” Holloway said in an interview with Stake. “Then we have a certain Conor McGregor wanting to make his return to the cage. You know, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t take that fight.

“It’s Conor McGregor man, you have to take that fight. We obviously have our history, and I think it would be great at the White House. Another one I had history with is Khabib (Nurmagomedov). You know, he’s retired, but I feel like Islam (Makhachev) is part of that team, and I’d like a shot at Islam, as well. I think we’re in a really great position with some exciting fights ahead.”

McGregor has been plotting for his octagon return ever since recovering from his leg break in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. “The Notorious” recently revealed he was offered a “no name” from the UFC’s welterweight division, but no opponent has been announced.
