After what has to be considered one of the most disappointing losses of his career, Max Holloway said he’ll get back to work.

Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) put his BMF title on the line in the UFC 326 main event this past Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Although he was 2-1 favorite in the fight, the former featherweight champion never had an opportunity to get started against Charles Oliveira (37-11 MMA, 24-11 UFC), who took him down regularly and had more than 20 minutes of control time in the fight.
The grinding, grapple-heavy win was just about a mirror opposite to the stand-and-bang proverbial wars that past BMF title fights have been, which left plenty to be desired for many fans and analysts. But Holloway didn’t fault Oliveira for his game plan in their rematch and said he plans to rebound and work his way back.
“The highest of highs and the lowest of lows,” Holloway posted on Instagram in his first social media comments since the loss. “Saturday night was not my night. Sorry to all my family, friends and fans that I have let down. Shout out to Olivera for doing his thing. All class so nothing but love to him. No excuses from this side and there never will be. I’ve been here before I know the work I need to do to get back to where I wanna be. We are far from done. See you guys at the top. #blessedexpress”
Holloway, just 34, knocked out Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 with one second left in their five-round BMF fight to win the belt in 2024. He won a double bonus for the all-time highlight-reel moment, but then lost a featherweight title shot to Ilia Topuria his next time out.

A win over Dustin Poirier in Poirier’s retirement fight this past Julykept the BMF belt around his waist until Oliveira took it. It’s now been nearly seven years since Holloway last held the featherweight title. Three of his past four fights have been at lightweight.
