Memphis basketball guard PJ Carter enters the transfer portal | Reports

by

Add PJ Carter to the list of Memphis basketball Tigers in the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

The senior guard is the third player from Penny Hardaway’s 2024-25 roster to make the move, joining guards Baraka Okojie and Jared Harris.

Carter was at Memphis just one season. The Atlanta native appeared in all 35 games for the Tigers, averaging 5.5 points and 1.5 rebounds a game. His specialty was his 3-point shooting. Carter connected on 40.3% of his attempts beyond the arc.

His most productive game in a Memphis uniform came in a win at Rice on Feb. 2, when he scored 19 points. But Carter came up big in several moments throughout the season, perhaps none more so than in the Tigers’ overtime win over UConn at the Maui Invitational. He scored 9 points (all in the overtime period) and had three rebounds − including one that led to Huskies coach Dan Hurley earning a pivotal technical foul.

Memphis is facing another roster rebuild, already losing Tyrese Hunter, Nicholas Jourdain, Colby Rogers and Moussa Cisse to expired eligibility. First-team All-AAC big man Dain Dainja’s eligibility status is unclear, as he has expressed a desire to pursue another season.

PJ Haggerty, Dante Harris, Damarien “Dink” Yates and Bouna Kebe, who redshirted this season, each have eligibility remaining and could be back at Memphis next season.

So far, the Tigers have commitments from Overtime Elite guard Daniel Vieira-Tuck and Eastern Florida State College guard Felipe Patino.
