The Week in Review: Michael Andrew Jumpstarts Training with Coach Herbie Behm
One week after the World Cup wrapped up in Asia, there was still plenty of action over the past week, including the start of Michael Andrew training with coach Herbie Behm in Tempe, Arizona. Andrew recently announced that he was shifting his training base, and Arizona State turned out to be the destination for Andrew, a Tokyo Olympian. In his new locale, Andrew is hoping to find the necessary speed to once again make him a podium contender in international competition. At the Tokyo Games, Andrew was a finalist in the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.
Last week also brought news that Olympian Chris Guiliano will be joining the University of Texas in the wake of Notre Dame’s suspension from college action due to gambling. Guiliano represented the United States at the Paris Games in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle and his presence with the Longhorns will provide an immediate boost to a program looking to claim another NCAA championship, this time under first-year coach Bob Bowman.
Another key story last week was the determination of Gabi Albiero, in her fifth year at Louisville, to finish her collegiate career on her terms. Albiero was not pleased with her performances at the 2024 NCAA Championships and the last summer’s United States Olympic Trials. Those efforts have fueled Albiero into her final year with the Cardinals, where her father, Arthur, is the longtime head coach.
