Michigan football makes top five for elite 2026 wide receiver

by

Michigan football has been recruiting very well as of late, but there’s one position that has not quite reached its potential on the field — wide receiver.

The Wolverines did see two receivers get drafted last year in Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson, but it had been some time since the maize and blue had put any wideouts into the league. Nico Collins and Donovan Peoples-Jones were drafted a few years beforehand, but unlike some other schools, Michigan hasn’t prioritized the position.

That’s changing.

With No. 1 overall recruit, quarterback Bryce Underwood now on the roster, and with a new offensive coordinator in Chip Lindsey, the passing game is set to take off. Michigan brought in three prominent receivers in 2025, in Andrew Marsh, Jacob Washington, and Jamar Browder, but there still aren’t any proven wide receivers on the roster who have been developed in Ann Arbor. And Michigan is working to change course in that light.

One 2026 prospect that’s been on the radar is 2026 Richmond (Va.) Trinity Christian School four-star receiver Davion Brown. Rated the No. 149 player in the country according to 247Sports, Brown is an elite prospect at the pass catcher position. And Michigan football made his newly-released top five, along with Georgia, Penn State, Syracuse, and Duke.

Brown is the type of talent that Michigan needs to keep adding in order to secure a consistently productive pass game, even beyond Underwood and his likely three-year tenure in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines already do have one wide receiver committed in the 2026 class in three-star Jaylen Pile.

The Wolverines did bring in two wideouts in the 2025 transfer portal during the winter window in former Indiana WR Donaven McCulley and UMass pass catcher Anthony Simpson. Both have produced seasons where they were their team’s leading pass catcher, with both being in 2023.
