Michigan football recruiting has been in a host visitors and wait-and-see mode for the past few months, but it’s set to heat up in a big way in the coming weeks and months.
With official visits set to begin on May 30 now that the spring practice sessions have concluded, the Wolverines are starting to make moves on their top targets. Among those who the maize and blue covets is 2026 Fruitland (Idaho) five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot. Obot just moved all the way up to No. 9 overall according to On3’s proprietary rankings, and Michigan has been in hot pursuit.

On Tuesday, Obot revealed his top five schools, narrowing down from 10, and Michigan football made the cut.
Oregon, USC, Utah, and Nebraska are also in hot pursuit.
According to 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks, Obot is also active in track and field:
Idaho 3A fifth-place shot put finisher as a sophomore with a throw of 47-1. Eclipsed 45 feet several times in Spring 2024, including a rep of 49-0.5, per MileSplit. Also logged discus reps, including a season-best throw of 111-4.
The last time that the Wolverines got a player from the state of Idaho, it worked out pretty well. Gooding standout Colston Loveland has been a staple in Ann Arbor over the past three years and is expected to be a first-round draft pick on Thursday.
Michigan has one offensive lineman committed thus far in 2026 in interior lineman Bear McWhorter. Last cycle, the Wolverines brought in two five-stars in Andrew Babalola and Ty Haywood.
