Michigan football recruiting is heating up, and it’s hitting the southern region of the United States hard, trying to attract top talent to Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines have seven commitments as of current, and three are within the SEC and ACC footprint, with one pledge from Georgia, one from Florida, and another from Texas. With official visits set to begin this week, the maize and blue assuredly will find more top-tier targets from down south who opt to come north and wear a winged helmet.

One prospect that the maize and blue have been hot and heavy for, who is set to visit soon, just revealed his top group, indicating that the Wolverines are continuing to surge in his recruitment.

Dorian Barney reveals top group and commitment date

Michigan has been working hard on 2026 Carrollton (Ga.) four-star cornerback Dorian Barney, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back who is listed as the No. 75 player in the country according to Rivals. On Tuesday, Barney revealed his top four schools and the Wolverines made the cut, along with Penn State, Georgia Tech, and Texas A&M. He’s set to make his commitment on July 5.

Michigan has one cornerback tentatively pledged in Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star Brody Jennings, the longest-tenured commit of the cycle. However, Jennings is being aggressively pursued by other top schools in his region and is actively taking visits elsewhere.

Barney’s visit to Ann Arbor is set

Barney is set to visit Ann Arbor for Victors Weekend on June 20, the premier recruiting weekend for the maize and blue this cycle. Currently, Penn State has a lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but there’s still a lot of time for the Wolverines to surge in his recruitment. He visited Ann Arbor for the spring game this year.

Also a basketball player, the visit to Ann Arbor will be crucial for the maize and blue to make up some lost ground, as the Nittany Lions have received the most visits thus far, with Barney having been to University Park multiple times, and Georgia Tech four times.
