Led by head coach Sherrone Moore, the Michigan Wolverines have been on a recruiting tear this offseason, sporting a 2026 group that ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten and No. 10 in the nation with 20 commitments.

They were one of the four finalists, along with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Kansas State Wildcats, who had their eyes on safety Donovan Webb.
Things were pointing in the right direction for the Wolverines to come out on top, and an article from On3’s Aidan Sen even said that they were “firmly in the driver’s seat.”
However, on Wednesday, they were dealt the unfortunate news that Webb had instead committed to Texas Tech to play under head coach Joey McGuire.
This outcome certainly stings for Moore, as On3 Industry Rankings placed Webb as a four-star recruit, the No. 33 safety, the No. 42 player in Texas and the No. 336 player in the nation.

Last season for Panther Creek High School, he put up some impressive numbers, recording 120 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and nine pass breakups while also having two punt return touchdowns.
He now becomes the 16th commitment that the Red Raiders have landed, as their group is starting to gain some serious traction, ranking No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 32 in the nation.

For Michigan and Moore, they can at least feel better knowing they’ve landed commitments from several talented defensive back recruits, including four-star safety Andre Clarke and four-star cornerback Brody Jennings.,
