Michigan State basketball guard Divine Ugochukwu out for the season

by

It’s been a rough week for the Michigan State basketball program. After suffering two straight losses to Michigan and Minnesota, the Spartans suffered another blow on Friday, when it was announced by Tom Izzo that guard Divine Ugochukwu will miss the rest of the season due to an injury he suffered in the Minnesota loss. Ugochukwu will have foot surgery next week, according to Izzo, and will likely be able to return to some activities later in the spring.

This is a pretty painful blow for the Spartans, as Ugochukwu, a transfer this year from Miami, was averaging 16.1 minutes per game this season and shooting 44.2-percent from three. Ugochukwu was brought in, presumably, to be the Spartans’ backup point guard, but ended up starting 12 games at shooting guard for MSU so far this year.

The injury will likely lead to more immediate minutes for Kur Teng, Trey Fort, and possibly Denham Wojcik.
