EAST LANSING — Jocelyn Tate got off to a hot offensive start.
And she helped get things going for the Michigan State women’s basketball team as it extended its win streak.
Tate had 10 points in the opening quarter while playing a part in the No. 22-ranked Spartans recording an 82-61 victory over Penn State on Wednesday evening at Breslin Center.
The victory was the fourth straight for MSU (16-3, 6-2 Big Ten). All four of the victories during the current win streak for the Spartans have come by double figures with Wednesday’s being the most lopsided of the Big Ten season.
Tate scored in double figures for the fifth time this season and the first since a Jan. 1 win over Purdue and finished with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Julia Ayrault had 16 points, Theryn Hallock added 12 points and Grace VanSlooten scored 10 points off the bench to help MSU improve to 10-0 at home this season.
The Nittany Lions, who were coming off an upset win over previously unbeaten and then-No. 8-ranked Maryland, committed 18 turnovers in the opening half while facing a 41-24 deficit at the half. MSU further broke things open in the early stages of the third quarter when it went on an 11-0 run that featured five points from Ayrault.
Gabby Elliott, who was with the Spartans the last two seasons had four points, four rebounds and four assists for Penn State.
