The United States escaped with an 82-81 victory over the Dominican Republic in a thrilling FIBA World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifier, with Mike James starring in his debut for Team USA.

The EuroLeague’s all-time leading scorer finished with 15 points and 13 assists, helping the Americans secure the one-point win.

On the other side, Real Madrid guard Andres Feliz led the Dominican Republic with 24 points, six rebounds, and six assists in a standout performance.

EuroLeague rising star Jean Montero added nine points but struggled to find his shooting rhythm, finishing 4-for-16 from the field.

Elsewhere, Canada cruised to a dominant 110-84 victory over Puerto Rico behind another outstanding display from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who poured in 26 points.

With the latest results, the United States and the Dominican Republic have both secured places in the second round from Group A, while Canada remains unbeaten atop Group B.

The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers.
