Mike Perry continues King of Violence reign

by

Mike Perry is still the King of Violence.

In the BKFC 82 main event at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., Perry defended his King of Violence title by stopping fellow UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens. The official time of stoppage was 1:35 of Round 5, following the third knockdown of the frame.

After Stephens stung Perry with a hard right hand early in the fight, it quickly became one-way traffic after that point. Perry gradually turned up the pressure on his opponent, soon becoming a bully with his forward pressure. Perry crowded Stephens with hooks along the ropes, forcing him into a defensive shell. When Stephens circled away to get space, Perry quickly closed the distance again to keep the fight on his terms.

The first knockdown of the fight came in the third round, when Perry connected with a stiff left hand to the jaw. In the fourth, Perry scored two knockdowns. In Round 5, Stephens opened with a very hard right hand, but Perry knocked him down three times to finish the fight.

During his post-fight interview, Perry addressed Conor McGregor, David Feldman and the rest of the organization. Stealing a line from McGregor, Perry took the time to apologize to nobody for any tension he may have caused at the pre-fight press conference.

McGregor got on the mic and encouraged Perry to challenge Dave Mundell for the middleweight title, which Perry was more receptive to. McGregor also said he would be open to challenge Perry inside the BKFC ring at some point in the future.

With the result, Perry picks up the first defense of the King of Violence title, which he won by stopping Eddie Alvarez at BKFC 56 in December 2023. Perry went on to stop Thiago Alves last April at Knuckle Mania 4 before taking on Jake Paul in a traditional boxing match. Paul won the fight by TKO in the sixth round.
