Minnesota West women’s basketball recognized by NJCAA

Apr. 11—WORTHINGTON — The Minnesota West women’s basketball team was well represented in the NJCAA Division III awards.

Sophomore Katrina Schutz was named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Year after nearly averaging a double-double this season with 16.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, along with 2.5 assists.

The 6-foot forward from Eden Valley was 15th in the nation in blocks per game with 2 and tied for third in free throw percentage at 81.5. Her other accomplishments this season include MCAC South Division Player of the Year, NJCAA D-III Tournament MVP and a first team All-American.

Fellow sophomores Sadie Krahling and Maddie Kamm were also recognized as All-Americans, with Krahling making the second team and Kamm being an honorable mention.

Krahling, an Adrian native, averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game and was in the top three in the nation in free throw percentage at 81.5 as well.

Kamm, a point guard from St. Peter, tied for fourth in the nation in assists per game at 6.3, and she also added averages of 9.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

Head coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka was named the Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year for the second time after she guided the Lady Jays to a 26-5 record and their second national championship in three years.
