Ole Miss and Mississippi State basketball have split this year’s Howell and Gillom trophies.
Josh Hubbard won the Howell Trophy for the as the best men’s college basketball player in Mississippi. Madison Scott is the Gillom Trophy as the best women’s college basketball player in Mississippi. Both awards were announced Monday at Pearl River Resort.
Hubbard is a back-to-back winner after receiving the award as a freshman last season. The Bulldogs swept the awards last season with Jessika Carter winning the Gillom Trophy in 2024. They’ve now won the Howell Trophy in four straight seasons and seven of the last eight.
Scott is the first Ole Miss Gillom Trophy winner since Angel Baker in 2023. The Rebels have won the trophy in four of the last five seasons.
Hubbard, a sophomore guard, is fourth in the SEC in scoring at 18.3 points per game and second in 3-pointers per game at 3.1. Scott, a fifth-year senior point guard/forward, is 28th in the SEC in scoring with 11.9 points per game and ninth with 3.9 assists per game.
Ole Miss’ Sean Pedulla and Jackson State’s Daeshun Ruffin were the two other finalists for the Howell Trophy; Mississippi State’s Jerkaila Jordan and Jackson State’s Taleah Dilworth were the other finalists for the Gillom Trophy.
Ole Miss women’s basketball defeated Mississippi State on Thursday in the SEC tournament. Both teams are expected to make the NCAA tournament when the bracket is revealed Sunday.

The Ole Miss and Mississippi State men’s teams are playing in the SEC tournament this week and are also expected to make the NCAA tournament.
