MLS insider Tom Bogert has reported that the league are in discussions to add a cash-based trade system to the existing transfer market.
It’s an idea that has been discussed for several years, and the report indicates that it could be voted on as early as this week in a meeting between the MLS Board of Governors in New York.
The rest of global soccer operates with a cash-based transfer system, and it’s thought that MLS sides could still use the existing allocation money alongside the new rules.
Salary caps and roster rules would have to be recommended by the sporting committee and then approved by the sporting and competition committee.
Many of the top executives at MLS clubs are said to be behind the idea.
