At +1800, I’m willing to take a chance on the San Jose Earthquakes. Winning away from home is one of the hardest things to do in soccer, yet they’ve collected 19 of a possible 24 points on the road while scoring 18 goals and conceding just nine. That’s the profile of a team built for playoff soccer. I’m still not convinced Vancouver is the class of the Western Conference, and while Inter Miami has the star power with Lionel Messi, its defensive issues make it difficult to trust over a full postseason run. The Western Conference also looks like the more manageable path to MLS Cup, making San Jose one of my favorite longshot futures on the board at these odds.

Nashville is my favorite value play in this market. Sitting atop the Eastern Conference, it’s built a profile that should translate well once the playoffs begin. While plenty of teams can score goals, Nashville separates itself with the league’s stingiest defense, conceding just 11 goals through 16 matches — five fewer than any other MLS club. Championship runs are often built on defensive stability, and Nashville has shown it can consistently grind out results. At +450, the current East leaders offer outstanding value to reach the MLS Cup Final.

This number stands out as one of my favorite conference futures on the board. Vancouver deserves respect, but the gap between these clubs isn’t nearly large enough to justify such a wide price difference. San Jose has consistently picked up points against quality opposition, plays with balance on both sides of the ball, and should remain firmly in the race until Decision Day. If the Earthquakes continue performing at their current level, +450 will look like a bargain down the stretch.

Nashville has done more than simply climb to the top of the Eastern Conference; it’s created separation. The club already owns a healthy cushion over the chasing pack, and that lead has been fueled by the league’s best defense. Conceding just 11 goals through 16 matches, Nashville has allowed five fewer goals than the next-best defensive side in MLS.

That consistency is exactly what you’re looking for in a regular-season futures market, where avoiding costly slip-ups matters just as much as producing highlight-reel wins. At +150, Nashville is still fairly priced to finish atop the East.

How to bet on MLS

Major League Soccer offers three primary betting markets on every match: the moneyline (picking a winner or draw), the spread (also called the Asian handicap), and the match total (betting over or under a set number of goals). Because draws are a common outcome in soccer, moneyline betting in MLS includes three options rather than two, which affects how odds are priced and where the value tends to hide.

The Asian handicap eliminates the draw as a possible outcome by applying fractional goal lines. A bet on a team at -0.5 means they must win outright for the bet to cash. A bet at +0.5 means they can draw or win. This market is popular with bettors who want to back a favorite at better value than the three-way moneyline offers.

Totals in MLS tend to sit between 2.5 and 3 goals. The league averages roughly 2.8 to 3.0 goals per game across a full season, making over/under markets competitive. Home field, travel schedules, altitude (for Colorado and Real Salt Lake), and weather all factor into how a total should be approached on a given matchday.
