Sep. 7—HELENA — Wykece Johnson scored three touchdowns and ran for 178 yards as Montana Tech bested Carroll 30-19 in a top 25 matchup Saturday.
The Orediggers (2-0) broke the ice in the first quarter as Derek Pearse hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jarrett Wilson. Wilson finished with 81 yards on 7-of-9 passing and the touchdown. Pearse had two catches for 56 yards.

Johnson carried the ball 34 times — his touchdowns from one, four and one yard out — helped Montana Tech to a 30-13 lead with 13:30 left in the fourth. His first touchdown broke a 7-7 tie and the Orediggers never looked back.
Helena High product and Carroll quarterback Kaden Huot connected with Ty Wilkinson from 13-yards out to cut the lead to 30-19. Huot finished with 166 yards on 16-for-29 passing; he had three touchdowns and one interception. On the ground, Huot ran 16 times for 60 yards.
Peter Minnaert added 46 yards on 10 carries.
Carson Ochoa caught three passes for 66 yards to lead the Saints (1-1).

Montana Western 52, MSU-Northern 0
DILLON — Michael Palandri threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns and ran for two scores as Montana-Western made short work of the Northern Lights.
Jonathan Kirkle, who had seven catches for 111 yards, caught a 25-yard scoring pass to open the scoring at 10:00 of the first quarter for the Bulldogs (1-1). Eli Nourse, who had eight catches for 103 yards, hauled in an 8-yard touchdown to make it 21-0 at 13:22 of the second quarter.
Palandri also hit Seth Shook with a 40-yard scoring strike and Landon Charlton with a 6-yard TD pass. His scoring runs covered 1 yard, and Kaden LaPlaunt also had a 2-yard scoring run.

Northern (0-2) was held to eight first downs (to 30 for Western) and was outgained 512-112 in total yards. The Lights have yet to score this season.
Roman Bradley ran 10 times for 43 yards for Northern; Colter Woldstad had a 45-yard carry. Ashton Platt was 6 of 9 passing for 23 yards.
College of Idaho 37, Rocky 20
BILLINGS — College of Idaho quarterback Caden Young threw for 238 yards and three scores and helped the Yotes scored 21 fourth-quarter points to put away Rocky Mountain College.
Caden Young ran 17 times for 114 yards for the Yotes, and Rylie Byington added another 92 yards on 19 carries.

College of Idaho rolled up 488 yards, to 365 for Rocky.
Battlin’ Bears quarterback Trent Nobach was 19 of 31 passing for 336 yards, and his 7-yard pass to Tuff Adams put Rocky up 7-0 at 11:31 of the first quarter.
Travis Marieiro’s 4-yard touchdown run put the Yotes in front for good 13-7 with 1:55 left in the first half.
Darius Haskin’s 75-yard scoring reception — he had six catches for 207 yards — cut the deficit to 16-14 late in the third quarter, and his 53-yard touchdown brought Rocky to 30-20 with 5:55 left.
C of I answered with a 55-yard drive, capped by Rylie Byington’s 1-yard TD run.
