Moses Wright is set to make his international debut with North Macedonia after receiving citizenship ahead of the EuroBasket 2029 Pre-Qualifiers.
The 27-year-old American center had previously been linked with representing Cyprus, but that possibility never materialized.
Instead, he will now represent one of Cyprus’ opponents, with North Macedonia, Cyprus and Austria placed together in Group F of the second qualifying round.
Wright is expected to begin national team duty when North Macedonia faces Austria in Vienna on August 30.
His international commitment will also delay his arrival at Armani Olimpia Milan.
The Italian club confirmed that Wright will miss the beginning of training camp on Wednesday while playing with his new national team.
North Macedonia will be coached by Josep Maria Berrocal, whose career includes experience with several EuroLeague organizations, including Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Panathinaikos.
Wright briefly appeared in four NBA games for the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers during the 2021-22 season before continuing his career overseas.
