Michigan State basketball is officially heading to The Volunteer State this fall.

The Spartans announced on Friday that they’ll be playing at Tennessee in a big-time road non-conference matchup in mid-November. This matchup will take place on November 17 in Knoxville, Tenn. — the official tipoff time and TV designation was not immediately announced.

It was reported earlier this offseason that Michigan State and Tennessee were nearing a deal to schedule a home-and-home series, with the Spartans first traveling to Knoxville this upcoming season. So this announcement confirms that earlier report.

With the official addition of Tennessee on the Spartans’ schedule, we now know of four premier non-conference matchups:

  • Duke (neutral site in Chicago) on November 10

  • Tennessee (road game) on November 17

  • Arkansas (neutral site in Detroit, Mich.) on November 26

  • Gonzaga (neutral site in Palm Springs, Calif.) on December 19

The rest of the non-conference schedule should be coming out with in the next month or so, but for now, we know of some monster games to excite Spartans everywhere. Based on current early preseason rankings, each of these four matchups should be between ranked teams, with Michigan State expected to be a preseason top 10 team themselves.
