
Selection Sunday is just over a month away.
And the Michigan State women’s basketball team enters its Feb. 11 showdown with No. 2-ranked UCLA in a strong position in the bracket projections.
The Spartans, who are ranked No. 13 in both the USA Today coaches and Associated Press polls, are in position to host the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament at Breslin Center.

The latest bracket projections released by ESPN’s Charlie Creme on Tuesday, Feb. 10, have MSU (20-4, 9-4 Big Ten) as a No. 3 seed and one of 12 teams from the Big Ten in this year’s field. The Spartans are also projected as a No. 3 seed in the brackets released by NCAA.com’s Autumn Johnson on Feb. 10.

The top 16 overall seeds host the opening rounds of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament.
MSU is ranked No. 11 in the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) rankings. The NET rankings are used by the NCAA to shape the NCAA tournament field.
The Spartans last hosted the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament in 2009. That marked the last time MSU advanced out of the opening weekend.

MSU also hosted the opening rounds of the tournament in 2007.
The field for the NCAA women’s basketball tournament is slated to be unveiled at 8 p.m., Sunday, March 16.
