Milwaukee Bucks center Myles Turner revisited a controversial midseason locker room moment, describing head coach Doc Rivers’ speech as a “cringe moment” following a leaked team meeting.
The comments trace back to a report from Shams Charania, who detailed a March 1 locker room exchange after a loss to the Chicago Bulls, where Rivers reportedly told players to “look at my resume, Google me.”
Turner confirmed key elements of that report while addressing how the situation unfolded internally.
“Listen, man, I don’t know who Shams’ source was,” Turner said on Game Recognize Game with Stewie & Mules, via HoopsHype. “I’ll come out and say it right now: I was not the snitch. I was not the mole.”
The big man added that the details in the report closely matched what occurred behind closed doors.
“I don’t know who was, but a lot of stuff in that ESPN article came out very accurate,” Turner said. “I think someone had to have had a tape recording at this point, because a lot of what was said was actually to a T.”
The meeting followed a collapse in Chicago, where Milwaukee lost a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter during a critical stretch of the season.
“Yeah, we had a really rough game in Chicago,” Turner said. “We had like a 20-point lead and pissed it away in the fourth quarter, which is a really bad point in the season for us.”
Turner explained that Rivers’ message aimed to challenge the roster, but the delivery did not resonate inside the room.
“Doc kind of came in and was like, ‘Listen, I heard y’all been talking shit, so let me talk my sh*t too. I’ve taken teams that are less talented than this to the playoffs,’” Turner said.
“He basically said, ‘I thought this was the team to do that.’”
According to Turner, the tone of the speech created an awkward dynamic rather than urgency.
“So, I think it was a way of trying to fire us up, but in a room full of ego, he kind of came with the whole ‘Google me’ thing,” Turner said.
“I don’t think it went over as well as he might have thought it would.”
Turner also pointed to timing and originality as factors in how the message was received.
“And again, it was a little unoriginal too, because the guy from Indiana, the coach, had just done that,” Turner said.
“It was a cringe moment for everybody at that time, because we were all kind of looking around like, ‘All right, guys. Well, I guess let’s go beat Boston now.’”
Rivers later disputed the initial report, stating on “Run It Back” that his comments were taken out of context and came in response to a player discussing personal statistics.
