NASCAR Daytona 500 race: Live updates, highlights, live leaderboard of Cup Series race

by

The Daytona 500, NASCAR’s crown jewel race, kicks off the 2025 Cup Series season on Sunday from Daytona International Speedway.

Sunday’s start time was moved up to 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT in anticipation of possible weather in the Daytona Beach area.

Chase Briscoe is on the pole, with Austin Cindric in the front row. Briscoe’s first season with Joe Gibbs Racing in Martin Truex Jr.’s former car will be one of the main storylines of the early season.

Toward the back of the field, part-time former Cup champions Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. will have a lot of work to do to get into contention on Sunday. Four-time Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves was forced to use the new open exemption provisional and will start 41st.

Follow along with our live race updates, with green flag set for after 1 p.m. CT at Daytona.

Daytona 500 weather forecast: Will the race be delayed?

The National Weather Service calls for a 67% chance of precipitation at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT Sunday in Daytona Beach, with thunderstorms also a possibility. The rain chances are minimal after 6 p.m., so there should be time to complete the race albeit under the lights if rain does fall this afternoon.
