For the 50th time in his NASCARCup Series career, Denny Hamlin has won the pole award. This time, he gets it done at Michigan. Of course, a week ago, Hamlin started on pole due to a rain out, was sent to the rear for jumping the start, and then came back and won the race in Nashville. This week, he will have a similar start to his race.

Hamlin damaged his diffuser during practice after suffering a flat tire. So, the team will make the repairs necessary and that means NASCAR will send them to the back of the field before the green flag is dropped. Maybe he will have to go from last to first again just like he did a week ago?

Carson Hocevar was on the provisional pole up until Hamlin, the last driver to go, hit the track. For the Michigander, it was almost a storybook moment. The wily veteran said, not so fast, and took the P1 starting spot from under the young driver’s nose.

Sunday is going to be a fast race. We saw some flat tire issues pop up throughout practice. That will be something to keep an eye on. The Truck Series race had its fair share of cautions. It should be an exciting Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400.
