Nathan Muratory returned to the Munich pool the morning after his dominant 200 back victory to lead the 100m prelims at the European Junior Championships.
Muratory enjoyed an emphatic victory over four lengths on Friday with the Frenchman touching in 1:55.88, 0.74 off Kliment Kolesnikov’s WJR of 1:55.14 that’s stood since 2017. It was also 0.09 off the championship record.
Back in the Olympic Pool for the shorter race, Muratory was the only man to break 55secs in 54.60, 0.15 quicker than his bronze medal-winning time from Samorin 2025. Mikhail Shcherbakov (AIN) was second into the semis in 55.20.
Just 0.01 separated Varvara Filippova and Irene Ciercoles Galve in the women’s 100 back with the Neutral Athlete heading the field in 1:01.26 to 1:01.27. Jeanne Lechevalier – who shared the 200 back title with Hungarian Fanni Kokas on Friday as France enjoyed double gold – was next through in 1:01.45.
The first three men in the 50 fly were separated by just 0.01. Jan Foltyn was back in the water after winning the 50 free with the Czechia athlete posting 23.74 to share the top time with David Antal of Hungary, the 200 fly champion. Defending champion Dean Fearn of Great Britain posted the third top time of 23.75
Luca Hoek returned from winning 50 free silver to head the 100 free prelims in 49.11 ahead of Neutral Athletes Matvei Miliaev (49.20) and Egor Proshin (49.27). Proshin led off the AIN men’s 4×1 squad in 47.94 on the opening night as they set a world junior record so there’s clearly more to come there.
Evangelos Ntoumas headed the men’s 100m breaststroke with the Greek swimmer – who won silver behind Filip Nowacki at the 2025 edition in Samorin – clocking 1:01.08. Max Morgan – the 50 breast champion in Munich – was tied with Germany’s Louis Hoffman in 1:01.44. Doruk Yogurtcuoglu, who set a Turkish record of 2:09.43 en-route to the 200 title on Friday, safely progressed in sixth.
Sofia Anufrieva was the only woman to break 1:09 in the women’s event, going 1:08.92; Andreanne Bourseul of France led the women’s 50 fly in 26.47 and Anna Rzaeva (AIN) led the 200IM in 2:15.92 with defending champion Amalie Smith having returned to Britain ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The Neutral Athletes squad were well clear in the men’s 4×200 relay prelims in 7:16.77 ahead of Germany and Italy.
