NBA draft expert praises Jase Richardson, takes shot at Michigan State

by

Michigan State basketball fans aren’t going to like this one. On Wednesday, ESPN NBA draft analyst Jonathan Givony took to social media to praise MSU freshman Jase Richardson, who has been starting to get the attention of NBA scouts with his elite scoring and two-way potential.

While that was great to see, and much-deserved for Richardson, Givony also took a shot at the Spartans at the end of the post, saying that ‘some NBA scouts wonder what kind of season Richardson would be having if fully unleashed in a friendlier team context.’

Without any further elaboration on what he meant, many MSU fans rightfully took issue with the vague accusation. Tom Izzo and MSU have been producing NBA talent for decades, so most fans felt this was a little unwarranted. I can only speculate on what he meant, because he obviously didn’t add any further context at this point, but maybe he is saying MSU isn’t just force-feeding Jase the ball every possession and letting him be the sole creator on offense?

If that’s what he meant, I guess I could at least see the argument, but if you know who Jase Richardson is, which is a very intelligent basketball player, you would know that he isn’t the type of player who wants to just isolate the ball every time down the court and hog the ball to further his own NBA aspirations. Part of what makes him a special player is that he routinely makes the right play for the team and the team’s success.
