The UConn women’s basketball team remained a 2-seed in the second NCAA Tournament top 16 reveal, but the Huskies’ region shifted from Birmingham, Ala., in the first reveal to Spokane 3 in Washington on Thursday.
UConn moved up a spot to No. 6 from the first reveal thanks to the upset of No. 5 South Carolina on Feb. 16, which knocked the Gamecocks off the 1-seed line. UCLA came in at No. 1 overall in Thursday’s rankings with Texas, USC And Notre Dame rounding out the top seeds. Seventh-rated LSU and No. 8 NC State joined the Huskies and South Carolina as 2-seeds.
There is still a long way to go until March, but the Huskies would see several familiar foes in the projected Spokane 3 region. Their path to the Final Four would run through 1-seed USC for the second straight season after UConn upset the Trojans as a 3-seed in 2024 to advance to the Final Four. The bracket also includes 3-seed Duke, who the Huskies beat in the Sweet 16 last year, and 4-seed Kentucky.
UConn currently has two top-15 wins this season, at No. 11 North Carolina on Nov. 15 and at South Carolina, but they have lost their other three marquee matchups against Notre Dame, USC and Tennessee. The Lady Vols were a 3-seed in Thursday’s reveal in the Birmingham 4 region.
The Huskies were a 3-seed in last year’s NCAA Tournament, which was their lowest seeding since 2005, but the team went on a miracle run to upset 1-seed USC and reach the 23rd Final Four in program history. UConn has missed a single Final Four since 2008 in 2023, when superstar Paige Bueckers was sidelined for the season by an ACL tear.
