Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule had nothing but praise for quarterback Daniel Kaelin as the latter returns to Nebraska. Kaelin rejoins the Huskers after spending the 2025 season with the Virginia Cavaliers.
Kaelin originally committed to Neraska on May 20, 2023. He spent his first stint at Nebraska backing up quarterbacks Dylan Raiola and Heinrich Haarberg. He entered the transfer portal on December 3, 2024.

In his only season with the Cavaliers, he appeared in seven games. He primarily served as the backup to starting quarterback Chandler Morris. He finished the season with 339 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Now, he is entering the Nebraska football program in a similar situation. Anthony Colandrea and TJ Lateef are expected to battle it out for the starting job. In the meantime, Rhule was complimentary of the quarterback as he spoke with the media.
“When Danny was away, I think some of his best friends were still on the team, and every time he was home, he was always around these guys. So I don’t think there was a person in the building that wasn’t glad to see Danny back here. To me, he’s the true definition of a Cornhusker. He grew up loving the state and program and it’s almost like he never left, to be quite honest with you.”
Kaelin may not play a major factor into the room right now. However, he could be a significant factor for the team in future seasons. Either way, the Elkhorn native is back home and ready for a fresh start with the program.
