Cornerback A’mir Sears of Pembroke Pines, Florida, has emerged as one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2028 recruiting class.
The Rivals industry rankings list him as a four-star recruit, the No. 1 cornerback, the No. 3 player in Florida and the No. 5 player in the nation.

Last year, as a freshman at West Broward High School, Sears racked up 57 tackles, 4 1/2 tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions and one pass deflection.
Despite still having three years left of high school, he has received offers from the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Georgia Bulldogs, the Miami Hurricanes, the LSU Tigers, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Sears Shares High Praise for Nebraska
Sears visited Lincoln for the first time on June 6 for a camp. In a subsequent article by Rivals’ John Garcia Jr., he had some eye-popping words about the Cornhuskers and specifically coach Matt Rhule.

“It was a great experience up there, it was my first time,” Sears said. “I really liked it, and I like the coaching staff. I really mess with Matt Rhule. Any time I walked into the facility, he had a new fit on or he was working out. That stood out to me.”
It’s a positive sign for Nebraska as it tries to make up for a weak 2026 recruiting class, which, at this point, ranks 59th nationally and 17th in the Big Ten with only 12 commitments.

Sears Showing Interest In Several Other Powerhouses
There’s still a significant amount of time until Sears needs to make a decision, though, and it’s clear several other high-powered teams are looking to make an impression.

While talking to Garcia, Sears revealed Georgia and Miami are high on his list and he wants to visit LSU, Florida State and South Florida.
If Nebraska can come out on top, though, Sears could be the program’s first top-25 recruit since landing five-star quarterback (No. 21) in the 2024 class.
