The New England Revolution have fired head coach Caleb Porter after less than two seasons in charge.
The decision came after the latest in a season of disappointing results, a 1-1 draw at home to Toronto FC in which the Revs were saved by a last-minute equalizer from Luca Langoni. With four games left in their season, the Revolution seem all but certain to miss the playoffs, sitting 10 points adrift of the final postseason spot.

Pablo Moreira, Porter’s assistant, will take over the team for the remainder of the season.

The team have struggled mightily while dealing with multiple injury issues under Porter, finishing 14th in the Eastern Conference (26th overall) last season and missing the playoffs after finishing fifth in the East (sixth overall) in a hectic 2023. That season saw former head coach Bruce Arena placed on administrative leave by the organization due to insensitive and offensive remarks, with Arena eventually resigning from his position.
Porter’s 2024 squad was largely constructed by Arena and suffered one of the worst seasons in team history, scoring the fewest goals in the league and conceding the second-most. Porter, along with sporting director Curt Onalfo, oversaw a near-total roster reconstruction in the offseason, but results in 2025 have not improved much. Since opening the season with five wins, four losses and one draw in their opening 10 games, the Revs have won just three times in their last 20 games, including a nine-match winless run in June and July that saw them pick up just two points from a possible 27.

Across all competitions, New England went 23-13-39 under Porter, who now faces an uncertain future. Once seen as a bright young coaching prospect after winning the 2013 MLS coach of the year award, Porter has two MLS Cups to his name – with Portland in 2015 and with Columbus in 2020. However, his teams have endured tough seasons more often than they have succeeded – Porter’s teams have only made the playoffs four times in his 11 seasons as head coach.
“I am very grateful to Caleb Porter for the energy, effort, and dedication he has brought to the Revolution over the last two years,” said sporting director Curt Onalfo. “I have the utmost respect for Caleb and all the tireless work he’s invested in the club, and we wish him the best moving forward.”
