LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is heading into the 2025 college football season as one of the best players in the country, but on Wednesday, murmurs surfaced that he suffered an injury that would possibly sideline him for the season.

In his first season as the starter for the Tigers in 2024, Nussmeier threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns, while leading the team to a 9-4 record. With his return, the Tigers are expected to contend for a title and have the eighth-best odds (+1300) to win it all, according to FanDuel.
However, while fans in Baton Rouge have been gearing up for a title run by the Bayou Bengals, a Wednesday report from On3‘s Shea Dixon surfaced from the team’s private practice that Nussmeier was helped off the field with an injury. Although there was no further information at that time, rumors on social media spread like wildfire that Nussmeier had suffered a season-ending injury.
Garrett Nussmeier’s Injury Status Revealed
Dixon, however, confirmed later that the worst was not to be feared regarding Nussmeier’s injury status.

“During Wednesday’s practice, Nussmeier was involved in what one source described as ‘normal football stuff’ during offense vs. defense drills,” Dixon wrote. “Adding that Nussmeier was not ‘carried off the field’ following a live play, as reported, but rather ‘was walking off’ contact ahead of starting the next play before LSU head coach Brian Kelly ‘told Nuss to just sit it out for the rest of the practice’.”
Dixon also confirmed that Kelly held the soon-to-be second-year starter out for “precautionary” reasons.

The local media will have a chance to attend Friday’s practice and will likely be locked in on how Nussmeier’s moving.

He and Louisiana will open the season against the Clemson Tigers at their version of “Death Valley.” The game is scheduled for August 30 and will air on ABC at 7:30 p.m. ET.
